One Step Closer

This morning I received an email from my publisher, Champagne Books, with a contract for Enchanted Knight (Knights of Kilbourne Book 3).]

This means I'm one step closer to getting Enchanted Knight out into the world (and into eager readers hands). I'll be working with my amazing editor, Nikki Andrews, who has shepherded the first two books in the series. Nikki's expertise and love for my stories really help to make my stories the best they can be, and I'm thrilled to be working with her again.

I don't have a firm release date yet. Obviously the previously-mentioned November release is not going to happen--there's no way to get the book through editing and into production in two to three weeks. I'll know more once I get my editorial letter back from Nikki, but at this point it looks like March (at the earliest) or more likely April of 2020. Much as I would have loved to have this book out in time for the holidays, it just isn't going to happen. I can't wait to share this new story with you, but there's a lot of work to be done before it's actually A Real Book.

And that's an interesting notion. An awful lot of readers don't realize what actually goes into the production of a book. It's not just writing, which is difficult and time consuming all on its own. There's endless revising and rewriting just by the author. Then revisions suggested (strongly suggested, normally) by the editor. Those changes are made, and the book goes through another round of reading and suggested editorial changes. Once those are all done to everyone's satisfaction, then the book goes to copy editing, where another editor looks at the actual grammar and typographical errors that may need to be addressed before publication. There's also the little matter of getting cover art done along the way, drafting of back cover blurbs and the front cover tag line. It's a long, hard process, folks. But one I'm proud to be a part of. Champagne Books, my publisher, is committed to producing the highest quality books (both from a writing and from a technical perspective) possible. Good books take time...

So, for those of you itching to get your hands on Enchanted Knight, please bear with us. It's coming. I promise.
